This is a photograph of my 40 gallon aquarium taken on 12-3-2003. This tank was established in May 2002 and was originally kept in the garage during the warmer months. In October 2002 the tank was moved indoors. This tank is considered to be an "overflow" tank for plants that I have too many of in my other tanks. I also use this tank for growing new species of plants that I haven't worked with before to see how they grow before transplanting them to my other tanks. Currently I have 20 species of plants, 1 species of fish, and algae eating shrimp.

Some of the specifications are as follows:

Tank size: 40 gallons. Dimensions are 36"L x 18"W x 16" H.

Lighting: Two strip lights with 2 - 25 watt 8500K bulbs in each light.

Filtration: One canister filter.

This tank is supplemented with carbon dioxide injection to help stimulate plant growth. The lights are on for approximately 12 hours per day and is electronically controlled. Temperature is kept at approximately 78 degrees Fahrenheit. 30% water changes are done approximately once per week. Ultraviolet sterilization is being used.
